How we got engaged

It was Christmas Eve and James and Emma were in Kanab for the week, visiting James' family. After spending the day visiting the place where Emma used to live, she and James went back to his parents' place for Christmas Eve dinner and the traditional opening of one present (usually pajamas). Emma opened her pajamas from James and watched everyone else opening their pajamas, then James' mom handed her another gift. When she opened it she saw that it was her own personal handmade Christmas stocking, made by James' mom! It was very meaningful because people don't usually get one until after they've married into the family. After everyone else had opened their pajamas James said, "Actually, I have one more gift for Emma" and then handed her a medium sized wrapped present. When she opened it, there was another wrapped present inside! Then another, and another! Finally she unwrapped a wooden, oval ring box. When she opened it, there was nothing inside! She showed the empty box to James and he laughed. Then he got down on one knee, in front of his entire family, pulled out the ring and popped the question! Emma was crying but she managed to say, "Yes!" Afterwards, James' whole family smothered them in hugs and congratulations. It was a perfect Christmas Eve.
